This is the day after Eli was born. He sure is a miracle. He weighed 6 11/12 pounds and was 18 1/2 " long. He was born, much to his dismay, in the same day as his uncle Charly June 21. The reason he was a miracle is that he was born in the Emergency Room lobby. Yes, you read that right. Shellise's water broke on our drive to the hospital, then, she began to scream frantically: "Honey, I need to push. The baby is coming." We were about a block and a half away and I tried to convince Shellise that everything would be ok. We pulled up at the ER entrance, I quickly ran to the desk to get someone but there was nobody there. I ran back only to find Shellise in more pain and screaming: "Honey, the baby's head is out. You need to catch him, you need to catch him." I replied to her, trying to convince myself at the same time; "Sweetie it will be alright. Let me take a look." I looked and fortunately the baby's head was not out. I then screamed at one of the ten people that were in the lobby to get someone now. The people in the ER were kind of freaked out by the look in their faces. Well, miraculously she felt no more desire to push and we were able to walk past the sliding doors and one of the man there brought a wheel chair for Shellise. She was about to sit down when once again she felt a strong desire to push. "Manuel, the baby's head is out, the head is out." Next thing I know a doctor rushes from the outside of the ER to Shellise's side and said: "Can I put you on the floor and deliver the baby on the floor." "Yes, yes I am ready to push now." She replied. A nurse huried with a gurney, Shellise was put on the gurney and to my surprise as soon as she laid on the gurney the baby's face was plastered on the gurney. One push and forty five seconds later, I counted, Eli was born safe and sound amist the clapping of the ten to fifteen people that experienced this intense, exciting, and joyous moment for our family.
